This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and attend them all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. We are entering a season of change.  It is cold today and clouds roll across the September sky as only they can in fall.  The green and lush colors of summer are slowly giving way to dry brown leaves and grasses and withering wild-flowers that now crunch beneath the footfall.

Each morning there is some kind of new arrival awaiting at the door of our awakening heart.  We never know what the new day will bring when first we open our eyes.  But, we can attend to and embrace whatever comes.... puzzling emotions, work, coffee with a friend, the wagging tail of a happy dog, a hummingbird who still visits the feeder. Each day offers something new and perhaps unexpected.  What ever rises up--greet it will love.  We all have great capacity to embrace or transform the unexpected if we let love be our guide.
